Electric vehicles are no longer something we're waiting for. They're here, they're becoming more affordable, and the pre-owned EV market is giving Australian buyers more choice than ever before.
At EV Depot, we believe buying used is one of the smartest ways to make the switch to electric. You can access impressive technology, lower running costs and a great driving experience — without necessarily paying the premium attached to a brand-new EV.
But buying a pre-owned EV is a little different from buying a traditional petrol or diesel vehicle. Here's what you should know.
The biggest advantage? Someone else has taken the depreciation
New vehicles generally experience their greatest depreciation during the first few years of ownership, and EVs are no exception.
For used-EV buyers, that can create a fantastic opportunity.
A vehicle that may have carried a much higher price tag when new can become significantly more affordable on the pre-owned market — while still offering modern safety technology, impressive performance and plenty of usable battery life.
It means your budget may get you more EV than you expected.
Battery health matters
When buying a traditional used car, buyers naturally think about kilometres travelled, service history and the condition of the engine.
With an EV, there's another important consideration: the battery.
That's why battery health is such an important part of how we approach used EVs at EV Depot.
Every EV we accept into stock is battery tested using our AVILOO battery diagnostic tester, and we don't accept an EV into stock with less than 90% battery health.
Rather than simply relying on the vehicle's age or kilometres travelled, battery testing gives buyers greater transparency around one of the most important components of an electric vehicle.
More confidence. Less guesswork.
